Not medical advice
Calories Journal is a general wellbeing and tracking tool. It is not a medical device, and nothing it displays — calorie estimates, macro targets, BMR, TDEE, or any figure derived from them — is medical, dietary, or clinical advice. No part of this service has been reviewed or endorsed by a physician, registered dietitian, or other licensed healthcare professional.
Estimates, not measurements
Calorie and macro figures produced from a photo or a text description are generated by an AI model and are approximations. They can be meaningfully wrong, particularly for home-cooked meals, mixed dishes, and anything where oil, butter, or sauce is not clearly visible. Barcode-scanned values come from Open Food Facts and reflect manufacturer labelling rather than independent lab testing. Calculated targets (BMR, TDEE, and daily calorie goals) come from population-level equations and will not exactly match any individual's actual metabolism. The full detail is on the methodology page.
Talk to a professional if
You should speak with a doctor or a registered dietitian before relying on this app if you:
- have, or are being treated for, a diagnosed medical condition
- are pregnant or breastfeeding
- have, or have a history of, disordered eating
- are under 18
- are planning a significant or rapid change in how you eat
- take medication where diet or weight change could affect dosing
Use your judgement
Every logged estimate can be edited before it is saved — if a number looks wrong, correct it. Treat any single meal's figures as a rough guide, and trends over several weeks as far more meaningful than any one entry.
