About Calories Journal

What it is
Calories Journal is a food tracker built around photographing your meal rather than hunting through a database. Point your camera at a plate, or describe what you ate in plain language, and you get calories and macros in seconds.
How the estimates work
Meals are analysed by a nutrition model working from USDA reference data. It estimates portions from what it can see, which is genuinely hard — a photo cannot show what is underneath, and cooking oil is invisible.
That is why every estimate lands in an editable form before it is saved. Treat the numbers as a well-informed starting point, not a measurement, and correct anything that looks off. Over a week the averages matter far more than any single meal. The exact formulas behind your daily targets are on the methodology page.
Not medical advice
Calories Journal is a general wellbeing tool. It is not a medical device and does not give medical, dietary, or clinical advice. If you have a health condition, are pregnant, have a history of disordered eating, or are making significant changes to how you eat, please talk to a doctor or a registered dietitian.
